album review

I rarely get to write a lot of things on my blog,
so I believe I deserve some space to
rave about a certain album I love.

Erykah badu- New Amerykah Part Two: Return of the Ankh

Erykah Badu definitely knows how to construct an album.
It has been three months since I've purchased this album and I sttill can't get enough.
At times, it is so free-flowing and improvisional, I could swear it's a live album.
But at some other moments, it is musically so well layered and pith perfect
that it had to come from considerable amounts of time in the studio.

Such is the brilliance of this album.
Erykah knows when to be emotionally serious enough and exactly when to just
be playful and enjoy herself. It does not take too many listens to hear that
she did not want to waste a single second of the album to serve whatever purpose she had in her mind.
An instant classic.
This kind of complete albums is the reason (along with albums such as the xx, illmatic, and
from here we go sublime, just to name a few that comes to mind)
I much prefer to get to know an artist through an entire album rather than singles.

enough said.
